Recreational facilities abound in La Porte City. On the west side of town of town near Union High School is the new family aquatic center, completed in 2006. Surrounding this are tennis courts, sand volleyball and outdoor basketball courts, playground equipment as well as a shelter house for picnics. On the east side of town at the corner of 4th and Walnut St. is the City Park which features a large playground, an enclosed and open-air shelter, numerous benches and picnic tables surrounded by antique street lights and many large trees for relaxing in the shade. Two softball diamonds are located on 8th Street, adjacent to the Cedar Valley Nature Trail.
Summer Rec Program
The City provides a six-week ball program for children in grades K-6 and is not limited to residents of the Union School District.  Registration forms are sent home with students prior to the end of the school year. 

Co-ed tee ball is offered to kindergarten students one night each week.  Co-ed Coach Pitch is offered ror 1st - 3rd grade students two nights per week.  4th grade softball and baseball practice is held daily and games take place on a weekly basis.  5th & 6th grade softball and baseball programs also practice daily and games take place on a weekly basis.  For more information contact City Hall (319)342-3396.

 

La Porte City Swim Team
The La Porte City Waves Swim Team is active with about 60 members ranging in age from 5 to 18.  Competition is weekly and practice is daily from early June through mid-July. Contact the pool manager for current team contacts.
