2007 Garbage & Recycling Pickup Information

Guidelines

GARBAGE - Garbage is limited to two cans or four bags on a combinations thereof.  Cans should be no more than 40 gallons each, weighing no more than 50lbs each.  Cans must be residential size with 2 handles.  If you have larger items that you need picked up, arrangements can be made through City Hall by calling 342-3396 during regular business hours.  Items such as furniture, fans, vacuums, and television sets can be arranged for pick up on your regular garbage day and you will be billed $410.00 per items on a separate bill.  Appliance can be picked up by the City for a fee of $20 each.

Residential dumpsters may be rented from the City for you small cleaning or construction projects for a fee of $1 a day, rent, $2.50 set off fee and $15 per dump.  These can be ordered through City Hall and will be billed separately.  Permanent Commercial Dumpsters can be arranged for through the La Porte City Municipal Utilities at 200 Main or by calling 342-3139 during normal business hours.

RECYCLING - Curbside recycling is provided bi-monthly at no charge to residents and is strongly encouraged.  Town wide recycling is picked up the 1st and 3rd Thursdays each month and is to be in containers set at the curb by 7:00am.  Sorting is not necessary.  Recyclable materials can be combined in trash cans or other suitable containers. GLASS IS NOT ALLOWED AT CURBSIDE PICK UP.  Glass items and other recyclables may be dropped off at the recycling center located at Elm Street between 4th Street and the railroad tracks.

YARD WASTE - Yard waste is not picked up curbside.  It can be taken to the City Dump located on 8th Street behind the Lion's Park ball diamonds.  The dump is open to the public from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm from April 1 - October 31, and is open from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm from November 1 through March 31.  Discarded cement may also be deposited in the appropriate pile.  Trash is not allowed at this site.
