Water and Electricity:
La Porte City Utilities is a municipally owned utility. Water storage capacity 400,000 gallons, 2 wells; average consumption 240,000 gpd.

Sanitation:
Sewage treatment facility with a design capacity of 554,000 gpd. The average load is 250,000 gpd. Ninety-eight percent of the community is served by city sewer.

Trash:
Curbside collection is provided once per week.  Click here for collection route.

Recycling:
Curbside pickup is provided twice per month. A recycling drop-off bin is also available at 4th & Elm Streets, near the railroad tracks.  Click here for recycling pickup schedule.

Yard Waste:
The City landfill on 8th Street is open 7 days a week.

Natural Gas:
Aquila serves the community.

Telephone:
La Porte City Telephone Co. is a locally owned phone company providing locally based repair service and equal access to long distance markets. There are 39 sheath miles of fiber optic cable in the system providing a connection to the 27 toll carriers and the interactive video connection from the Iowa Communications Network at the high school.

Cable Television:
Mediacom Cablevision provides cable service. In addition to four local broadcast networks, the local cable package includes 25 basic channels, 3 premium channels, along with a community based local access channel.

Police:
The La Porte City Police Department provides 24-hour protection with four full-time officers. 

Emergency Service:
The La Porte City Fire Department is a volunteer organization that provides both fire and ambulance protection.
