Residential Sidewalk and Driveway Information
Residential sidewalks within the City of La Porte City are required by ordinance to be installed within one year of the completion date of the construction of a new dwelling. New and existing sidewalks are required to be maintained by the adjacent property owner. They must be free of debris, cleared of ice and snow, and repaired where defective and in an unsafe condition.
The City may order the repair and/or new construction of sidewalks upon any street in the City at the cost of the abutting property owner in accordance with Chapter 136.06 of the La Porte City Code of Ordinances and Chapter 384.38 of the Code of Iowa.
